With a master of business administration from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, Michael T. Hernandez is actually the Vice President – Vice President Housing Access, Affordable Housing Initiatives. In this role, Mr. Hernandez has the corporate responsibility to drive a Fannie Mae strategic initiative to expand access to sustainable mortgage credit and affordable housing. As part of this mission, Mr. Hernandez leads Fannie Mae’s on-the-ground disaster recovery efforts, most recently in Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico and Santa Rosa, California.
Before his recent position, Hernandez was Vice President – Marketing, Communications and Regulatory Reporting. He also managed FHFA regulatory reporting related to Multifamily housing goals production, Duty to Serve and external inquiries related to Multifamily activities. Prior to that role, he was Vice President – Data, Reporting and Communications primarily responsible for the development and operation of business information management and data to support the Multifamily business.
Mr. Hernandez also served as Vice President – Foreclosure Prevention and Outreach, responsible for the development and operation of single-family borrower loss mitigation and retention strategies. He was also responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of Housing & Community Development (HCD) financial risk policies, standards and procedures for establishing and maintaining HCD Delegations of Authority, and for the review and approval of HCD New Business Initiatives.
Prior to joining Fannie Mae in July 1993, Hernandez served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Single-Family Housing with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C.
