With a Juris Doctor of George Washington University, Law School, he is Joaquín Tremols is the Deputy Director Single Family, of the USDA Rural Development’s Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program, which has an impressive portfolio exceeding $100 billion. Under Joaquin’s leadership, the program transitioned from requiring Congressional appropriations each year to not needing taxpayer funding; it now pays for itself through the guarantee fees it charges private sector participants. A recent accomplishment was changing the program from a labor intensive, paper-driven process, to a paperless electronic environment. Joaquin has been linked to the mortgage industry since 1983, moving in 1998 to USDA Rural Development. His experience includes working for 10 years with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, where he held various positions in the areas of Origination and Servicing. He worked at the Legal Department of the FDIC, and has also been lending manager of Marriott Federal Credit Union.
